Renegade Nell Discontinued After First Season Despite Critical Acclaim on Disney Plus

A promising fantasy series on Disney Plus, which starred an actor from Derry Girls, has recently faced an unfortunate fate. The series, titled Renegade Nell and featuring Louisa Harland, has been discontinued after its inaugural season.

The show was the brainchild of Sally Wainwright and helmed by Ben Taylor. Set in an imaginative 18th-century England, it revolves around Nell Jackson (portrayed by Harland), who is unjustly accused of a dire crime and subsequently becomes a notorious figure. With the assistance of a mystical sprite named Billy Blind (played by Nick Mohammed), Nell realizes her extraordinary destiny.

Among the cast were notable talents such as Adrian Lester, Enyi Okoronkwo, Craig Parkinson, Frank Dillane, Alice Kremelberg, Pip Torrens, Joely Richardson, and Jodhi May. The series' entirety, consisting of eight episodes, made its debut on Disney Plus on March 29, 2024. Despite garnering positive feedback from critics and viewers, Deadline reported that a second season is not in the works.

A spokesperson from Disney Plus expressed immense pride in the creation by Sally Wainwright and lead director Ben Taylor. The message extended gratitude to the production partner Lookout Point, the cast led by Louisa Harland, and the crew, expressing hope for future collaborations. Alice Kremelberg shared this message on her Instagram story, expressing her fondness for the team.

While Renegade Nell's first season remains available for streaming on Disney Plus and is highly recommended, there are other exceptional shows on the platform that are worth exploring right now.
