Meta Upgrades Messenger: Enhanced Video Calls and AI Backgrounds Transform Communication Experience
Nov-22-2024
Recent advancements have been made by Meta Platforms, enhancing the Messenger app with features designed to elevate the quality of audio and video communications. By leveraging artificial intelligence, users can now enjoy custom backgrounds during video calls, allowing for a more personalized interaction. Alongside this, HD video calling has been incorporated, providing a clearer visual experience, along with updates that include background noise suppression and voice isolation to ensure crisp audio quality. These enhancements build upon earlier updates, such as AI-generated themes introduced in September.
New Features on Messenger
Meta has shared insights regarding the enhancements to Messenger. One of the major upgrades is the introduction of HD video calls, allowing users to engage in calls with significantly improved visual clarity. This setting enables HD calls by default when connected through Wi-Fi, with options available for cellular data usage as well. Additionally, voice isolation and noise cancellation features have been integrated to clear up conversations and minimize background disturbances. Users can easily activate these features through the call settings within Messenger.
A distinguishing aspect is the integration of artificial intelligence-driven backgrounds. This functionality utilizes Meta's AI assistant to craft backgrounds based on users' text prompts. Users can access this by selecting the effects icon during video calls and choosing the Backgrounds option.
Furthermore, Messenger is introducing a voicemail-like feature. This allows users to record audio or video messages in instances where the call is not answered. Once a call is flagged as missed, the option to record a message appears, ensuring that communication persists even when immediate connection isn't possible.
According to Meta, iPhone users can soon experience hands-free calling options, providing the ability to request Siri to make calls using voice commands. Additionally, they will be able to dictate messages through Siri, enhancing convenience and accessibility.
This rollout follows the introduction of a new Memories feature in Messenger, which enables users to revisit and share photos from their earlier conversations, fostering a sense of community and reminiscence.
