Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: A Next-Gen Upgrade for Action RPG Fans

Enhancements and improvements are on the horizon for fans of the action RPG genre with the upcoming reimagining of a classic title. This updated release is set to elevate the player experience on modern consoles, ensuring that players can enjoy an enhanced adventure like never before.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered will arrive with support for PS5 Pro right at its launch and will present three distinct frame rate choices, namely 30, 40, and 60 frames per second. This remaster offers a plethora of improvements and is designed to make the most of the PS5's capabilities.

As the October 31 launch dates approaches, early impressions based on hands-on sessions reveal that the remastered edition of the 2017 PS4 favorite stands out with numerous upgrades. Visual fidelity has seen a remarkable boost across nearly all elements, including intricately detailed characters, vibrant environments, advanced lighting, and stunning effects. Among these enhancements, the option to select from three frame rates empowers players to enjoy the game in a way that best suits their preferences.

Each frame rate choice—30fps, 40fps, and 60fps—presents distinct advantages and disadvantages regarding performance and visual quality, similar to what was experienced in Horizon Forbidden West. The dynamic resolution scaling used mirrors that of the latest sequel, targeting native 4K in quality mode, while performance modes straddle just below the mark of approximately 1800p.

The anti-aliasing enhancements notably match those found in Forbidden West, resulting in a cleaner visual experience compared to the original iteration of the game. While the three frame rate options yield similar performance, the image quality in the performance mode stands out sufficiently to be considered the preferred choice.

With developer Nixxes at the helm of this remaster, they confirmed that PS5 Pro support is already integrated, functioning seamlessly when utilized with compatible consoles. The performance across all modes has been described as largely exceptional, with each option successfully meeting its designated performance targets. This includes the 40fps unlocked mode, which caters to displays that support variable refresh rate technology.

For existing owners of Horizon Zero Dawn, an upgrade to the remastered version will be available for a mere $10 / £10 upon its release next week for both PS5 and PC platforms.
